It is with the heaviest of hearts we announce the passing of Vivian Esther Comeau at Marianhill Hospice on Friday, April 18, 2025 in her 96th year.
Vivian was born in Elgin, NB, February 14, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Pearle Harrison (nee Mercereau). She is survived by her children David (Isabelle) of Campbell River, BC; Roger of Edmonton, AB; Colleen Comeau-Edison (Neil) of Winnipeg, MB; Vickie of Victoria, BC; and Paula Bruneau (Brian) of Pembroke, ON. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She leaves behind sisters Marion Colpitts (late Ian) of Stittsville, ON; Joy Steeves (late Maurice) of Moncton, NB; and Sharon Argue (Percy) of Stittsville, ON; as well as many many nieces and nephews. Mother loved them all.
She is predeceased by husband James, daughter Marlene, son Andrew, sisters Bernice, Beryl & Dorothy and brothers Clayton and her beloved twin brother Vernon.
She was such an eclectic soul who loved the outdoors, whether she was fishing, camping, gardening, or bird watching, she loved being in nature. When she was a child, she loved to listen to the whippoorwills and pick mayflowers and wild strawberries. Something she carried as an interest into adulthood when she became a member of New Brunswick Wildlife Federation and the Bird Association.
When she wasn’t outdoors, she enjoyed puzzles, darts, curling, dancing, clogging, going to the casino, road trips, writing poetry and of course, playing cards.
Mom was a hard worker and held many jobs over the course of her life. She once wrote for the Miramichi Leader and volunteered for the Boys and Girls Club in Miramichi, NB.
She loved to spend time baking and cooking, fresh bread was a staple at home as well as wonderful nightly meals and a huge array of pies and desserts. Mom loved to garden and from that she made different preserves. She sewed her daughter’s clothes when they were young while knitting sweaters and mittens for the boys. She was truly a Jack of all trades when it came to homemaking.
Private family arrangements are entrusted to the Malcolm Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to ALS Society of Canada.
