Roland DUPLESSIS SIR KNIGHT

d. March 25, 2012

DUPLESSIS, Sir Knight Roland Michael, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Bishop Smith Assembly; Third Degree Knights of Columbus, Council Bishop Lorraine #1531 Born February 2, 1945 in Renfrew Victoria Hospital to Joseph Campbell Duplessis and Mary Agnes Duplessis (nee Beaudry) Died on March 25, 2012 of liver and pancreatic cancer in his 68th year of life. Predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Harvey, Maurice and Andre. Survived by his two sisters, Yvette Gaudette of Ridgetown, Ontario who took the place of his mother when she died at the age of 39; and Anne Haley (Elmor) of Cobden. Also survived by sister-in-law Teresa Duplessis (Maurice) of Pembroke; as well as several dear cousins, especially Lucille & Gordon Mick of Calabogie, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Roland was a thoughtful, generous and kind friend to many and will be sadly missed by his large circle of friends and acquaintances, especially his best friend, Stephen Henry. Roland joined the Christian Brothers at the age of 16. The chaos of Vatican II prompted Roland to leave the brothers and teach as a lay person. Roland spent all of his working life as an educator. He started his career in Toronto, teaching grade eight at De La Salle and worked his way across the province teaching elementary and secondary grades. Roland wanted it noted how very much he appreciated all that Sister Carmel McCrystal of the Grey Sisters of the Immaculate Conception did for his sister Anne and himself while they were children. She became the mother they had lost. May God bless Sister Carmella with His greatest honours reserved for Saints like her. Thank-you to Dr. Steven Uttley for the excellent care he provided Roland. Thank-you to Marney Stunt and Nurse Kim Roach from CCAC for their loving care of Roland. Thank-you to the neighbours and friends at St. Joseph's Housing who were so good to keep in touch with Roland, the staff at Carefor who were so kind to him the six weeks he was with them. A very special thank-you to all the people who cared for Roland the last week of his life, Dr. Hurley & Dr. Thorsteinson. The Emergency room & third floor surgical staff at the Pembroke Regional Hospital and the staff at the Palliative Care Unit of Marianhill. During his final days, these people treated Roland with kindness, compassion and great sensitivity, going above and beyond to ensure his comfort. At Roland's request, there will be no public visitation or funeral. Roland will be buried in the family plot at St. James the Less Catholic Cemetery, Eganville. Arrangements by the MALCOLM, DEAVITT & BINHAMMER FUNERAL HOME, Pembroke. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Columbkille Cathedral, Pembroke on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. (In lieu of flowers, donations to the Grey Sisters Mission in the Dominican Republic or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.)
