Roderick Loftus

LOFTUS, RODERICK ("ROD") HOWARD Rod died very peacefully in his 65th year on June 25th, 2014 at Toronto Western Hospital. He was born on November 4th, 1949, in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, of Marguerite Henzel (nee Anions) and Kenneth Howard Loftus. He was the adored husband of Diane St. Pierre-Wallace of Pembroke, Ontario; devoted father of daughters Ashley Hughes (Billy) of Brisbane, Australia, Kaitlin, and Hailey; proud grandfather of baby Jocelyn Hughes; and dear brother of David (Carmen) and Kevin (Elizabeth) - both of Peterborough, Ontario - and Barbara Jo ("Jodi") Graham (Rob) of Aurora, Ontario. He will also be missed by his former wife, Jane Loftus, of Pembroke, Ontario. As well, he was a member of the Fellowship of Manly Adventurers, a small group of devoted lifelong friends that meant much to him. Rod earned an Honours B.A. degree in Environmental Studies at the University of Waterloo in 1972. He then completed his M.A. degree at the University of Victoria in British Columbia. He loved B.C. and taught ski area planning at Selkirk College for several years. He found, however, that his true calling lay in financial planning and management. He enjoyed a successful career in that area in Nelson and Vernon, British Columbia, and later at Kingston, Pembroke, and Bancroft in Ontario. Rod helped many people, and was known to be honest, reliable, and helpful, and generous with his sound advice. Visitation will be held at the Malcolm, Devitt and Binhamer Funeral Home, 141 Renfrew Street, Pembroke, Ontario from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday July 4th, and from 11:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday July 5th. The funeral will be held on Saturday, July 5th at noon at the Malcolm, Devitt, and Binhamer Funeral Home. A luncheon will follow the service. Special thanks to the wonderful nurses, doctors, and other staff at the Loretta Anne Rogers Critical Care Centre at Toronto Western Hospital.
