Ralph Bergsma
December 24, 1951 – January 17, 2020
Ralph Bergsma of Pembroke, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2020 in his 69th year. Ralph fought numerous health issues for many years with dignity, strength and a sense of humour. He left this world as he lived it, on his own terms, and was ready to return to be with the Lord.
Dear husband of the late Christine Bergsma (nee Drent). He will be dearly missed by his three children, Matthew, Benjamin (Dawn) and Tanya Lott (Jeremy). Special Pake (Grandpa) to ten grandchildren; Ryan, Joel, Ella, Evan, Nathan, Alexander, Caleb, Daniel, Seth, and Steven. He is predeceased by his parents Alec & Beverly Bergsma (nee Duursma) and siblings Keith (late Patricia) & Judy. Survived by siblings Rudolph (Grace), Adam (Anne), Elizabeth Rook (Harm), Wilma Rozeboom, Isabel Wouda (George), William (Helen) and Nick (Betty). Ralph was also blessed to have many extended family friends who were all very important to him.
Ralph was a “doer” and a very hard worker. He loved to be busy and was a meticulous builder, designer and repairman. Whether it was for neighbours, friends or the church, Ralph regularly volunteered his time and skills to anyone who needed them. He had a good sense of humour and loved to laugh (sometimes with you...sometimes at you). Ever pragmatic and ever frugal, Ralph was a true Dutchman. He loved God, he loved his family and he loved his friends. In the last few years, his illnesses prevented him from doing the things he loved most, which was extremely difficult. If you wish to honour Ralph, donate your time, your kindness, or your unique skills to helping those in need.
Visitation will be at the PEMBROKE PENTECOSTAL TABERNACLE, Corner of Hwy 17 & 41 on Thursday, January 23rd from 7 to 9:00 p.m., and on Friday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. A celebration of Ralph’s life will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. Spring interment will be held at Beachburg Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Scleroderma Society of Ontario or Wycliffe Bible Translators (for the ministry of Tanya & Jeremy Lott) would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, Pembroke. Online condolences and donations are available at www.mdbfuneralhome.com.
