Houston, Norma Marie - passed away at Mill Creek Care Centre, Barrie, Ontario on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at the age of 85.
Norma Houston (nee Prins), formerly of Pembroke, beloved wife of the late Bob Houston. Dearly loved mother of Reade Houston (Jennifer) of Midland; and Kim Lintack (Wayne) of Barrie. Cherished grandmother to Connor, Chad and Cara. Devoted sister to Ted Prins (Glenna), Curtis Prins (Esther), Neil Prins (Karen), Tim Prins (Fern) & the late Lawrence Prins (Vera), all of Pembroke; and Ruth Pulsifer of Bible Hill, Nova Scotia. Sister-in-law to Marlyn Zadow (late Guenther) and the late Joyce Hunton (late Arthur). Predeceased by parents Arie and Ella Prins (nee Verch). Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Norma was the eldest of 7 children growing up in Pembroke. She married Bob Houston at 22 and lived in Kitchener; Toronto; a remote 200 acre farm in Burks Falls; Bracebridge; Portland, Oregon; Port Carling; and then Bob and Norma retired to Creston, British Columbia for 10 years. On return to Ontario, Norma and Bob lived on the river in Trenton. After Bob passed in 2006, Norma returned to Pembroke and to her large, loving family. Norma delighted in babies and especially her grandchildren, Connor, Chad and Cara. She was a faithful believer in Christ and was most recently a member of the Whitewater Wesleyan Community Church in Cobden. Norma loved to read, solve puzzles, and was often creating - macramé, tole painting, quilting, rug hooking, and baking. She adored her family and touched many people with her kindness, generosity, and love. A good listener with a sense of humour, she made people feel welcome and at ease. Always a lady, Norma was humble and quietly determined; she travelled Canada end-to-end but was most happy in the company of those that she loved.
