Mona Louise Stewart resident of Riverview Heights, Pembroke daughter of the late James and Hedwig Stewart (nee Lindeman). Dear sister of Janet Stewart, Pembroke; Ethel Cowley (late Ron), Hamilton; Gwen Stewart, Pembroke; Dr James Stewart (wife Ruth), Pembroke; and Robert Stewart (wife Bertha), Pembroke. Predeceased by brothers Clarence Stewart and Donald Stewart (wife Beth), Pembroke. Survived by four nephews, six nieces, many grand nieces and nephews, one great grand nephew, and two great grand nieces.
Mona Louise Stewart was born Dec 29, 1916 in Pembroke Ontario. She attended Pembroke Public Schools, and the Pembroke Collegiate, where she excelled in basketball and track and field, winning the girls senior championship in 1934. Upon graduation in 1936 from Ottawa Normal School, she taught in several rural schools in Renfrew County and then in the Pembroke Public Schools. In 1943 she moved to Hamilton where she taught special classes for the city's Public School system. In 1964 she obtained her B.A. degree from McMaster University. She loved to travel and took part in many sports. She especially enjoyed playing golf. Mona retired from teaching in 1978. At Mona's retirement in Hamilton she received from the Council for Exceptional Children an award for outstanding service to exceptional children and youth.
Cremation has taken place. Respecting Mona's wishes, there will be no visitation. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
