Merrill Horricks

HORRICKS, Wm. Merrill – passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at the age of 86 years. Merrill Horricks, of Pembroke Ontario, beloved husband of 61 years to Shirley Horricks (nee Marston). Proud and wonderful father of Lynn Horricks, Toronto; Leanne Guenette (Glen), Carleton Place and Laurie Horricks (Sandro Volpini), Ancaster. Grandfather, better known as Poppy to Ian Guenette and Adamo & Matteo Volpini. Brother of Laurine Blackwell (Eric) and Fyrne Ditulio (Don Carnegie). Uncle to Trevor, Terry, Bonnie, Robert, Bill, Nick and Morgan. Son of the late William and Laura Horricks (nee Jones). A naturalist at heart, Merrill loved to paddle his canoe in Ontario waters, while capturing the scenery with his multitude of cameras. Merrill was past 32nd degree Mason and Past Master of Goodwood Lodge Number 159, 1981-82. Merrill and Shirley settled in Ottawa to raise their three daughters and were active members of Bethany Baptist Church. After a long career in space aeronautics, Merrill and Shirley retired in Pembroke where he was reunited with the congregation of First Baptist Church, a long-standing tradition in the Horricks family. Merrill will be especially remembered for his kind and compassionate spirit, and his deep devotion to family. His quick wit and teasing sense of humor brought laughter and smiles to many. Respecting Merrill’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Malcolm, Deavitt and Binhammer Funeral Home, Pembroke.
