MAURICE ROLLAND DEMERS
18 June, 1936 to 4 February, 2024
Maurice Rolland Demers passed away on Sunday, 4 February, 2024 at the Pembroke Regional Hospital with his loving family by his side.
He is survived by his cherished wife, Elizabeth (nee Steege); loving daughter, Joanne Demers, loving son, Mark Demers (Marcia McLean), and adoring granddaughters Naomi Kelly (Ciaran), Silvana Jones (Meshach), and Audrey Sullivan.
Predeceased by parents Rolland and Jeanne Demers (nee LeBel), and by sisters Colette Beaupre and Susann Demers.
Many great family experiences were shared with his brothers and sisters-in-law Pauline Wilson (late Charlie), Waverly Hamilton (late Donald), Marilyn Steege (late Ray), Gail Bucholtz (Stanley), Alice Graveline (late Clarence), Grant Steege (Heather), and many nieces and nephews.
Maurice worked as Quality Assurance Inspector for TransCanada Pipeline, 1957-1965, and Atomic Energy of Canada 1965-1993 then retiring. He and his family enjoyed many years at the family cottage, boating, fishing, and hosting family and friends, as well as having a tourist business in the early years. He and Elizabeth enjoyed dancing, card playing, attending cultural events, and traveling.
Maurice was a member of the Antique Car Club of Pembroke, serving as president. He was a member of the Pembroke Murals Committee for many years. He served his faith community on the property committee, the Camp Lutherlyn Committee, and was especially known for tending the rose garden at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and other caregivers that provided excellent care to Maurice over the last several months.
Memorial Visitation will be held at Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, 141 Renfrew St., Pembroke on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church, 503 Alfred St., Pembroke, on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, St. Joseph’s Food Bank, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
