Bertha Stewart was born on March 8, 1934, in Westmeath Township to Joseph Burke and Valeria Primeau. (Bulmer) She passed away peacefully due to complications from pneumonia, on October 20, 2024, at Pembroke Regional Hospital with family by her side. She is survived by her loving daughter Lillian Stewart and son-in-law John Kinsella, granddaughter Amelia Kinsella and her husband Sveinbjörn Geirsson. She is also survived by her dear sisters Mavis, (the late Robert Lucas), Mildred, (the late Del Lippert) Judy (Elroy Roesler), Gwen (Bryan Fletcher) and brother Bob Bulmer (Diane). She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Bob, her sister Fern, (the late Leonard Chevalier) and brothers Murray, Doug, and Bruce. She will be dearly missed by her vast extended family of nieces and nephews, and by her many friends young and old with whom she shared close bonds.
She grew up in a time of huge change in the world and allowed those innovations to wash around her while she continued to stay rooted in family traditions that were important to her - a good, healthy meal, warm hand-made and knitted clothing, the annual parade of preserves, which followed a successful harvest in the garden. She was proud of her accomplishments and with the relationships she established with others. She was proud of her home both inside and outside, and proud of her African violets – unless they didn’t perform! Many of you know about her competitive side when it came to games of cribbage – look out! She was a spirited and genuine individual, loved and admired by all who knew her. The family thanks the staff on third floor medical, and in the ICU at Pembroke Regional Hospital for their professional and compassionate care.
