With deep sadness, we announce the death of our beautiful Lydia Robin Overton, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. Lydia was 22 years old. Precious daughter of Chris and Martha Overton (nee Hanson), younger sister of Benjamin, twin sister of Phoebe and loving older sister of Samuel. Predeceased by her grandparents, Bob and Maureen Overton of Petawawa and Barrie and Lorraine Hanson of White Lake.
Born in Pembroke, Lydia grew up in her country home on Marsh Road and spent summers on the Ottawa River on the family property affectionately known as Fern Hollow. She attended L’école Équinoxe from kindergarten to grade 12 and graduated with honours, fully bilingual in English and French and being awarded the Governor General’s Academic Medal. After studying Early Childhood Education and graduating at the top of her class, Lydia began work at Coeur des Jeunes. She found great joy in working with young children, planning extensive programs and activities and always referring to her class as “my kids.”
In 2019 Lydia was baptized, dedicating her life to serving Jehovah God and she remained a loyal, faithful servant, happy to share the Bible’s hopeful message with others in her community.
Lydia loved music. She was a trained piano player, taught herself how to play ukulele and guitar and was a beautiful singer. Most evenings were spent either learning to play a new song on the piano or playing guitar in the kitchen and singing beautiful harmonies with her sister Phoebe. When Lydia wasn’t singing or playing, she was listening to music, most often her beloved Eagles.
Lydia was an intelligent, witty, very hard-working, talented, kind, empathetic, beautiful young woman. Her death leaves a hole in our hearts that cannot be filled. We take great comfort in knowing she is safely in God’s memory and we will see her again in His new world when “God will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.” (Revelation 21:4)
