HOPKINS, Lois Mary (nee Gust) Passed away peacefully in the Ottawa General Hospital with her two children by her side on October 3, 2024, at the age of 95 years.
Lois Hopkins of Petawawa was the dearly loved wife and very best friend of the late Len Hopkins (former Member of Parliament). Loving and cherished mother of Sherri Lynne Hopkins (David Stoddart), Brampton and Doug Hopkins (Joanne Anas), Ottawa. Predeceased by infant son Scott. Loving grandmother "Gannia" to Craig & Steven. Loving daughter of the late Bill and Lena Gust (nee Mohns). Predeceased by brother Gerald Gust (late Gloria); sister Elva Scheuneman (late Oscar); and sister Marilyn Kinloch. Sister-in-law of the late Robbie Hopkins (Alma, Argyle, ON) and the late Helen Graham (late Gordon). Aunt Lois will be missed by her many nieces & nephews. She will also be missed by her many close friends and extended family.
Lois spent much of her professional career as an educator, starting her teaching career in Deep River at the age of 17, followed by many years as a teacher and primary consultant on Canadian Forces Base Petawawa. She had much energy and enthusiasm for life, having raised two children while at the same time working as a teacher, supporting her husband with his political career and completing a university degree on the side. She loved spending time with her grandsons, often in the Muskokas. She played the piano and organ and enjoyed gardening. She was a wonderful cook and it was impossible to ever leave the Hopkins home hungry. She will be dearly missed.
