Lilian GARRETT

d. March 11, 2011

GARRETT, Lilian Violet Peacefully in hospital, Pembroke on Friday, March 11, 2011 at the age of 93 years. Vi Garrett (nee Brydges) of Pembroke, dearly loved wife of the late Gordon Garrett. Dear mother of Russ Garrett (Diane), and Sheila Gordon (Kevin). Grandmother to Sarah Garrett, Devin Gordon (Anna), and Kerith Gordon. Vi will be fondly remembered by many loving nieces and nephews and relatives in England. On March 27, 1943 Violet married Gordon Alexander Garrett, a mathematics teacher at Pembroke Collegiate and Vocational Institute, and despite his untimely passing in 1967, she remained devoted to him and his memory. Vi was a long time resident of Pembroke, Ontario and loved her home and community. She was a proud member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church and participated in all aspects of parish life. In addition, she was a Girl Guide leader of 1st Pembroke Company serving the organization for 29 years and was a recipient of the Certificate of Merit from Girl Guides of Canada. As a Life Member of the Alexandra Club, initially established as an auxiliary to the Cottage Hospital, she worked in the Nearly New Shop and, for over 40 years, acted as treasurer. Violet was very interested in the arts in Pembroke attending the Symphony Concerts and supporting all the activities at Festival Hall. She was a consistent attendee of the Summer Marina concert program and the Fiddling Weekend. Her artistic interests led to her participation in the traditional rug hooking craft and from 1977 until the present she met regularly with an avid group of rug hookers. She supported Pembroke's participation in the Community in Blooms program and was a keen horticulturalist. As a member of the Historical Society she enthusiastically promoted the features of the Champlain Trail Museum and Pembroke and area in general. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Pembroke Regional Hospital for all their care and compassion. Resting at the Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, 141 Renfrew Street, Pembroke on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Service in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 68 Renfrew Street, Pembroke on Tuesday, March 15th at 11 a.m. Spring interment in Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Pembroke.
