Katherine "Kay" Wray

Wray, Katherine “Kay” - Passed away peacefully in Deep River, Ontario on October 11, 2022, in her 99^th year.

Katherine “Kay” Wray (nee Veals) is fondly remembered by her sons Howard (Kathy) and Richard (Muriel), and grandchildren Jason, Kelly (Ken) and Alexander. She was predeceased by her husband Leonard, and sister Marion Ball. 

The daughter of United Church missionaries, Kay was born in West China in 1924, and spent her early years in both China and Toronto. She had great memories of attending the Canadian School in Chongqing, China. She also was given the opportunity to travel the world, and was fortunate enough to have circled the globe before she was eighteen. She was able to re-visit her love of travel in her later years after her family had grown. 

Kay and Len were married in 1952 in Toronto, and soon moved to Deep River as Len took a job at the Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories. This was an ideal place to raise her family, and she stayed in Deep River for the rest of her life, despite sadly losing Len too soon in 1970. Kay enjoyed travel and nature, taking up photography in her later years, as well as genealogy. She cherished her family and keeping in touch with friends and relatives.  

Kay was an active member of Deep River Community Church since 1952. She will be remembered for her faith and quiet determination, which she displayed until the very end.  

Visitation will be held at the Deep River Community Church, 115 Deep River Rd., Deep River on Sunday, October 23, 2022 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Deep River Community Church on Monday, October 24, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in the Deep River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the North Renfrew Long-Term Care Centre or the Deep River & District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
