Josephine Joyce Cory
1926–2024.
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to GG on August 8, 2024. Joyce Cory (nee Evans) was predeceased by her husband, James Lewis Cory. She leaves her children Peter (Jean), Josephine Campbell (Ron), and John (Jocelyne); grandchildren Scott (Melissa), Neil, William (Lindsay), Margaret (Cory), Amanda, Evan (Melissa), and Janna (Craig); and great-grandchildren Brynn, Jake, Kaitlin, Hanna, Sophie, Everett, Jett, Malcolm, Coen, and Berkley; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was born in Shanghai, China and came to Canada after being released from a Japanese POW Camp, where she, her mother, father and brother were interred during WWII. She trained as a nurse at the University of Toronto prior to her marriage and lived in Montreal, Ottawa, and Westmeath, where she continued her work as a nurse.
Two of the founding members of CADS, the family property on the Ottawa River, Joyce and Jim raised their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to value family above all else and to appreciate the beauty of nature.
In Joyce’s honor, her beloved family plans to gather for an intimate celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Pembroke Regional Hospital Cancer Care or the Ottawa Heart Institute would be appreciated. A very special thank you to Riverview Heights staff and to Katie from a grateful family. Arrangements entrusted to Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, Pembroke.
