PURCELL, James "Jim"
With sad and thankful hearts, the family bids farewell to Jim Purcell, of Pembroke, who passed away at Marianhill on April 18th, 2015, in his 83rd year.
Loving and devoted husband of almost 61 years to Ila (nee Neumann). Dear father of Tanya (Rick) Limoges, Tyson (Diane) Purcell and Troy (Jo-Ann) Purcell. Doting "Poppa" of Tarwyn, Marcie, Kristen, Jodie, Kaitlin and Hannah and his 3 great grandchildren. Also survived by his uncle Harry (Diane) Purcell. Predeceased by brothers Richard and Frank.
Jim was a proud veteran of the Korean War and served his country honourably through his distinguished military service with the Royal Canadian Army (RCR) and the Canadian Guards. Jim was a retired employee of the City of Pembroke. Jim volunteered in many capacities such as organizing community events and by supporting local service organizations. He was a Palm Leaf recipient life member, serving 50+ years as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #72, holding various Executive and Provincial Command positions over the years including District Zone Commander and was a Past President of Branch 72.
Jim will be remembered not only for his volunteerism but for his spunky sense of humour and wit and devotion to family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Friends may call at the MALCOLM, DEAVITT & BINHAMMER FUNERAL HOME, 141 Renfrew St., Pembroke on Sunday, May 3rd from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. RCL Branch #72 service at 7:30 pm. Funeral Service from the Chapel on Monday, May 4th at 11am.
