Passed away at the Pembroke Regional Hospital on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at the age of 71 years.
Helen Bardis (nee Adam) of Pembroke, beloved wife and companion in all life’s endeavors for 54 years to John Bardis. Devoted mother to Matina Bardis and Athan Bardis (Michelle). Yiayia to John, Oliver, Sam, and Elizabeth. Daughter of the late Erika and Sam Adam. Sister of Veronica, Peter (Karen) and Ian. Helen was embraced into the Bardis family when she was 18 years old, devoted sister-in-law of Angeliki Mandelou (Fotis), Peter Bardis (Miropi) and the late Vania Varvaresos (late Nicholas). Also survived by many nieces and nephews in Canada and Greece.
Helen’s journey from Parry Sound to Pembroke in 1971 marked the beginning of a beautiful chapter in her life, where she met her cherished husband, John. Together they built a loving family and thriving business. For 51 years, Helen was the heart of Nick’s Chicken House and Pizzeria, welcoming every patron with a smile that left a lasting impression. Her devotion to her family—husband, children, and grandchildren—was unparalleled.
Though she had German and Scottish roots, Helen embraced Greek culture and religion with open arms, becoming a beloved member of the Hellenic community. Her unwavering support, love and strength made her the rock for all who knew her. Helen’s effortless kindness and culinary skills will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held at the Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, 141 Renfrew St., Pembroke on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Calvin United Church, Pembroke on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. Interment in Calvin United/First Presbyterian Cemetery, Pembroke. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Greek Orthodox Community of Ottawa or Columbus House, Pembroke would be appreciated.
