Harvey McLeod Thrasher
October 9, 1928 - August 14, 2013
It is with regret we say goodbye to a dear husband, father and grandfather, who passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Pembroke Regional Hospital on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at the age of 84 years.
Harvey Thrasher of Pembroke, son of the late Donald and Milvena Thrasher (nee Cowie), he is survived by his wife and best friend Helen Thrasher (nee King), whom he married on Sept. 2, 1950. Proud father to sons Kelly; Murray (Bev); Darryl (Karen); Kirk (Annette) and Scott (Valerie). Pappy to Dlaine, Tessa & Callen; Brooke, Derek, Megan & Casey (Matt); Krista & Devinne; Jacob & Colleen; and Eric & Brittany. Great-grandfather to Quinn and Brycen. Brother of Laura Bilson and Averil Moore (late Jim). Predeceased by son Lory Thrasher, daughter-in-law Gail Thrasher, sister Eileen Bromley (late Harold) and brother John Thrasher.
Harvey's working life was varied, from lumberjack to CP Rail, culminating in a 30 year career as an operator at Atomic Energy in Chalk River. An avid hunter and fisherman, Harvey spent his retirement years since 1985 helping on the family farm and travelling throughout Europe, South America and the Caribbean. A true baseball fan, he was thrilled to attend the final game in the 1993 World Series when the Blue Jays won two in a row. He particularly enjoyed the special times at the camp in Kenora with his family around him.
Visitation will be held at Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, 141 Renfrew St., Pembroke on Friday, August 16, 2013 from 6-9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Greenwood United Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society. Online donations/condolences are available at www.mdbfuneralhome.com.
