With heavy hearts the family of Gordon Robinson announces his passing on Monday, February 17, 2014 at the Ottawa General Hospital after a month-long illness.
Gordon Isaac Robinson was in his 81st year. A lifelong resident of Greenwood (Laurentian Valley), he has now been reunited with his beloved wife Anna (Scheunemen) who passed away April 2005.
He was the son of the late Isaac and Carena (McLaughlin) Robinson.
Dad's final days were spent surrounded by the love of his family: Dale ( Debbie); Mark (Jo-Anne); Carol Ann Clark (Doug); Brenda Pascoe (Shawn); and Dan Robinson.
Bringing him much joy throughout their lives and especially this past month were his grandchildren: Lucas Robinson, Meghan Pattinson (Ryan); Jeff Clark (Emily Eber); Andrew Clark; Bradley Pascoe; Leigh Pascoe (fiancée Caitlyn Ramsay); Alexandria Pascoe; Isaac, Olivia and Gabrielle Robinson; and great granddaughter Leighton Pattinson.
Although he was ill, Dad treasured the visits from his sister Betty Clouthier (the late Emmett) and brother David (wife Judy) Robinson.
He was also fortunate to have the love and support of Anna's family: Marjorie (late Walter Reiche); Marion and Jack Buder; Lawrence and Bernadette Scheuneman. Dad touched the lives of many people over the years, evident by the many friends who visited him while he was sick.
He was predeceased by his brother Lindsay Robinson; brothers in-law Jack, Clarence, Ben, Victor and Elmer Scheuneman and sisters-in-law Lorna Robinson and June Petrulis.
Always an active man, the past five years Dad had the pleasure of the companionship of a wonderful woman, Delta Neville. Together they would dance the night away, socializing with friends and embracing life to the fullest.
Dad had a strong work ethic and when combined with the support of Mom he purchased the struggling Cassidy's Transfer and Storage Moving Company in Pembroke in 1972. With only three trucks and five staff housed in a small building on a crowded residential street Dad's vision began to take shape.
In the early 1990s, Dad purchased Fox Cartage in Petawawa and three moving companies in Ottawa, amalgamating them into the Cassidy's Transfer family, where all the employees were made to feel valued.
Once again Dad's hard work and determination were rewarded with success. One of the highlights of the early years in Ottawa was the awarding of the contract to move newly elected Prime Minister Jean Chretien into 24 Sussex Drive.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to Rev. Margie Patterson, whose prayers and visits with Dad were much appreciated. To the staff at the Pembroke Regional Hospital, especially Dr. Mgbenema, we could not have asked for more professional, compassionate and respectful care than what you offered Dad. To the staff at the Ottawa General Hospital we offer our sincere thanks for your efforts to keep Dad with us these last few weeks.
His journey in life on earth has ended but he will remain in our hearts forever.
Dad will rest at Malcolm, Deavitt and Binhammer Funeral Home, Pembroke, Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral Service Friday, February 21, 2014 at 11 a.m. Greenwood United Church. Spring interment Greenwood United Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Greenwood United Church or the Pembroke Regional Hospital's MRI campaign would be much appreciated.
