Gilbert Clifford Popkie

POPKIE, Gilbert “Gibby” – passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Miramichi Lodge, Pembroke at the age of 73 years. 

Gilbert Popkie of Pembroke, husband of Beverly Popkie (nee Ledgerwood). Father of Shirley Hopper (Phil), Petawawa; Pauleen Nickerson (Kevin), Kingston; Brenda St. Pierre (Bob), Chalk River; and Michael Popkie, Pembroke.  Grandpa to André (Kristie) & Jennifer (Mat); Tyler; Sarah & Megan; and Anthony & Selena.  Great-Grandpa to Westley.  Son of the late Edward and Violet Papke (nee Hass).  Brother of Ellard Popkie (Shirley), Vincent Popkie, Joan Tomka (Bob), Marjorie Demers (Roger), Delphine Luloff (Stanley), Weldon Popkie (Jane), Rudolph Popkie, Sheila McQuade (Tom) and Arlene Popkie.  Predeceased by brother Donald Popkie (Judy) and Mildred Giesler (late Carl).  Survived by many nieces & nephews. 

Respecting Gilbert’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A celebration in honour of Gilbert’s life will be held in the spring.  Arrangements entrusted to the Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, Pembroke.  As an expression of sympathy, donations to Dementia Society of Ottawa & Renfrew County or Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada would be appreciated.  Online donations/condolences are available at www.mdbfuneralhome.com.
