IRVINE, Gertrude (nee Risto/Black)
1916-2006
Gertrude Irvine has finally been reunited in everlasting peace with her beloved late husband William James Black (1974). Gert passed away November 14, 2006 after several months of declining health. Gert leaves behind her deeply loved sons Don Black, his wife Beth and their two children Andrew and Adam, and Darrell Black and his wife Debbie, all of Ottawa. Daughter of the late Otto Risto and Emily Biederman. Survived by brother Cliff Risto (Evelyn) of Pembroke. Predeceased by Vern Risto (Clara and Helen), Helga Maves (Arnold), Hector Risto, Randy Risto (Evelyn), and Evelyn Ellies (Abbie). Also predeceased by her second husband Albert (Al) Irvine (daughter Kathy). Survived by many nieces and nephews in Canada and Northern Ireland. Mom was a kind and caring soul. She was always willing to help others, but never wanted to impose herself on others. Aside from devotion to her family and her faith, Mom's great passion in life was her garden. Her name appears numerous times throughout the years on Pembroke Horticultural Society awards. Her bountiful garden, with delicious cucumbers, tomatoes, and other vegetables sustained many of us that didn't inherit her green thumb - or didn't bother to try, knowing that Mom would always share. A special thank you to the PRH 3A nurses and Dr. Baxter for their care, compassion and support.
Resting at the Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, 141 Renfrew St., Pembroke on Thursday from 7-9:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in St. John's Lutheran Church, Pembroke on Friday, November 17th, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. Interment in the church cemetery. As a tribute to Mom, buy a bouquet of fresh flowers and share them with a loved one. Donations to St. John's Lutheran Church in Mom's memory would be appreciated.
Peace, perfect peace, Mom.
