O'BRIEN, Gary Frederick - died peacefully at the Osgoode Care Centre, Metcalfe ON on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the age of 77 years, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Gary O'Brien of Metcalfe, formerly of Pembroke, loving husband of 52 years to Lillis O'Brien (nee Righton). Special dad to Steve (Jody) and Heather Pharand (Marty). Caring granddad to Logan, Chloe, Rose, Ashley, Autumn, Brady (Caitlin), Kaisha, Keelan, Chara, Shaidyn, Skyler, Tamryn and Beatrice. Son of the late Alex and Viola O'Brien (nee Laundry). Brother of the late Iona Wisenberg and Verner O'Brien (Marjorie). Survived by brother-in-law Gerald Righton (Val). Spending quality time with his children was very important to Gary. He loved music and liked to "hum and strum" on his guitar. He enjoyed boating, skidooing and water skiing. He was always very competitive and loved playing horseshoes, shuffle board and pool. Gary worked at Atomic Energy, Chalk River and Lillis taught school for Base Petawawa and Renfrew County Board of Education. God blessed Gary and Lillis with many good retirement years. They travelled, spent time making great memories with family and friends at their cottage on Allumette Island and making many new, special friends in Cocoa Beach, Florida. "Friends are the flowers in our lives that never fade!" We have been SO blessed. A sincere thank you from the family goes to all the nurses, support workers and staff at the Osgoode Care Centre. May God continue to bless you as you daily meet so many different needs of the residents with love, understanding and patience. We will never forget that special care you gave Gary over the past 2 1/2 years. Friends may call at the Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, 141 Renfrew St., Pembroke on Thursday, August 20, 2015 from 1-3:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. Interment In St. Luke's Anglican Cemetery, Pembroke. As an expression of sympathy, donations to Samaritans Purse (Shoe Box Program) or the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated. Online donations/condolences are available at www.mdbfuneralhome.com.
