Garbo Greta Bucholtz (Retired Teacher and Farmer)- passed away at Miramichi Lodge on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at the age of 89 years, as the angels opened the pearly gates and welcomed her with open arms.
Garbo Bucholtz (nee John) of Pembroke, wife of the late Eldon Bucholtz. Loved, cherished and dedicated mother of Kim Sheppard (Craig), Pembroke, ON and Penny Vaillancourt (Charly), Chapeau, QC. Loving grandmother to Jillian (Marc), Lindsay (Darren), Keith (Sabrina) and pup Stella Mae. Great Grandmother “GG” to Parker, Chad and Liam. Sister of the late Garfield John (late Dolly). Predeceased by sisters and brothers-in-law Wallace Bucholtz (Alice), Laura Klatt (Arthur), Merna Rosamond (Robert) and Harold Bucholtz. Daughter of the late Alec and Ella John (nee Heideman). Daughter-in-law of the late August and Lillian Bucholtz.
Garbo Greta, named after Greta Garbo the glamorous movie star of the 1920’s and 30’s. Garbo grew up in Waltham, Quebec with her parents and brother. She took the train to Shawville every day to attend school. She started her 35 year-long teaching career in Waltham and Ladysmith, Quebec. She was an elementary school teacher at many different schools in Renfrew County and the Pontiac. The mainstay of her teaching career was at PSPS and Fellowes High School. The staff and residents at Miramichi Lodge appreciated her quick wit and humour, along with her continued love of children and stories of their educational journeys.
Along with her late husband Eldon, they owned and operated a dairy, then beef farm, just outside of Pembroke until 1997. Garbo was known for creating a social and family dynamic wherever and whatever she had been involved in, she was well known for her conscientiousness, her loyalty and her dedication to her family, friends, colleagues and to her church.
Garbo’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff and residents of Miramichi Lodge for the care and friendships that they had extended to Garbo over the last couple of years. Special thank you to Neil Lloyd for his assistance in preparing a beautiful service and U.C.W of Salem United Church for their support.
Friends are invited to share their memories and stories of Garbo with her family at Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, 141 Renfrew St., Pembroke on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Calvin United Church on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Salem United Cemetery, Locksley with a reception to follow in the parish hall. In memory and honour of Garbo, the family requests donations be made to the Calvin United Church or Salem United Church.
