Einar Lund

d. November 23, 2009

LUND, Einar, Peacefully and in the presence of family and dear friends, November 23rd at Pembroke Regional Hospital, one week into his 84th year. A man of quiet strength and great devotion to family, friends and community, his lifetime was one of service to others. Beloved husband of the late Shirlie (Ricketts), father of Kirk (Jacquie), Glenn, Kerry and Fred (Sheila), Einar will also be missed by grandchildren Erik Braden Kirk, Jared Michael and Emily Margaret. Born November 16, 1925, Einar was the fifth-born and last surviving sibling of the six Lund children (Johan, Vera, Ingeborg, Fridtjof and Helen). Coming from Norway with his family in 1928, settling in Temiscaming, Quebec, Einar nurtured a lifelong love of sport and the outdoors - a skier of all disciplines, paddler, tennis player and golfer. During the war he served aboard a Norwegian Navy U-boat chaser. After, he travelled his adopted country as a miner, lumberer, farm hand and rail worker. In professional life he was an executive with Boy Scouts Canada and, later, the Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Research Foundation of Ontario. After 48 years of marriage and the loss of his wife Shirlie in 2002, Einar was blessed to find new love and companionship in Shirley Shaw, of Pembroke. Visitation at the Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, 141 Renfrew St., Pembroke on Thursday 7-9 p.m. A service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, November 27th at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 68 Renfrew Street, Pembroke, Ontario. Donations will be welcome to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Holy Trinity Anglican Church (Pembroke) Memorial Fund.
