Passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at Bonnechere Manor on Thursday, March 13, 2025 in her 87th year.
Edith Vandersleen, dearly loved wife of the late Rutger (Richard) Vandersleen.
Dear mother of Gaya Lafreniere (Joe), Jenny Kasaboski (Jerry), Casey (Sabrina), Edie deWal (Jake) and Gary.
Granny to Lisa Mitchell (Blake), Hollie Kasaboski (Christian Kungl), Brittany Kasaboski (Jamie Wickens) , Kristyn deWal (Chris Neff), Katie Rouse (Jordan), Samantha Zadow (Nick), Taylor deWal (Anton Vidjen), Jordan Vandersleen (Taryn Walker) and Meagan Vandersleen.
Great-Granny to Maiven Mitchell, Kennedy, Maverick and Ronan Kungl, Claire and Charlotte Rouse, and Wrenley and Jacob Zadow.
Dear sister of Jitske deJong (late Halbe), Anna Trumble (late Dick), Greta Boven (Fred), Wendi Bierman (John), John Pool (Nancy), Joanne Woito (Brian).
Predeceased by her parents Cornelius and Geeske (nee deJong) Pool, sister Janke Chattillon (late Timmy) and brother Wieberen Pool.
Survived and loved by many nieces and nephews.
Edith was born June 12, 1938 in Drachtstercompagnie, Friesland (Netherlands) to Cornelius and Geeske Pool. Edith immigrated with her family to Canada in 1951.
Originally coming to Westmeath and later settling in Pembroke. She married Rutger (Richard) Vandersleen in 1958 at the age of 20. Together they raised five beautiful children. Edith became a homemaker, later starting a career as a home care provider for the Canadian Red Cross.
Guided deeply by her faith through life, she was an active member of the Zion Christian Reformed Church and was involved in many volunteer organizations.
The family would like to thank the many staff at Bonnechere Manor and Supples Landing for their kindness and exceptional quality of care over the last two years.
Visitation will be held at Malcolm, Deavitt & Binahmmer Funeral Home on Sunday, March 16th, 2025 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Zion Christian Reformed Church, 152 Drive-in road, Pembroke on Monday, March 17th, 2025 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow.
Burial will take place in the Spring at Calvin United Cemetery.
Donations on behalf of Edith can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County.
