Donald Keith Rantz

Passed away surrounded by the love of his family at Marianhill Hospice on Friday, April 18, 2025 at the age of 72 years.

Donald Rantz of Petawawa, beloved husband and best friend of Nancy Rantz (nee O’Donnell). Loving father of Pamela Rantz, Kincardine; Andrea Pejic (Bojan), Petawawa; and Julia Nicolas (Ron), Petawawa. Proud Papa of Tai; Sofia, Emilia & Luka; and Mateo. Son of the late Paul and the late Gertrude Rantz (nee Cornthwaite). Brother of Richard “Rick” Rantz (late Sue), Ottawa and Robert “Bob” Rantz (Pauline), Petawawa. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, former students, colleagues, neighbours and friends.

Don was the kind of person who would do anything for anyone and he could make anyone feel welcome. He was known for his “funny” jokes, random facts, and his passion for music and the outdoors. Being outside in nature, Don was in his element. He spent so much of his time at Achray in Algonquin Park and in Tomiko at the camp. He loved an adventure, and went on many a camping or road trip. He shared this passion with friends and family, teaching them about the geography and history of all the places he went to. As a teacher for over 30 years, Don made an impact on so many lives, inspiring many to pursue sciences or teaching, but above all, he encouraged people to be themselves. He was so proud of his girls and he loved his grandchildren with all of his heart.

Memorial visitation will be held at Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, 141 Renfrew St., Pembroke, on Friday, May 16, 2025 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A Memorial service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Petawawa on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in the Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. John’s Lutheran Church Petawawa or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
