Bernice Van Wert

VAN WERT, Bernice Edna - passed away at the Pembroke Regional Hospital on Saturday, January 25, 2020 in her 91st year. Bernice Van Wert (nee Charkavi) of Pembroke, beloved wife of the late Robert “Robbie” Van Wert. Dear mother of Gerry Van Wert (Gail) and grandmother of Christopher Van Wert (Laurie), Pembroke; & Erin Martel (Moise), Kingston, NS. Daughter of the late Peter and Georgina Charkavi (nee Lance); and predeceased by brothers Welland & Theo; and by sisters Bernadette Lauzon, Della & Theresa. Survived by sisters-in-law Geraldine Charkavi (late Welland) & Uliwine "Lulie" Van Wert (late Donald); as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. Thank you to Anil Verma and Kelly Kosnaskie of Country Haven Retirement Residence and most definitely the 3rd floor staff who treated mom like a family member and maintained her quality of life right up to her most recent admission to hospital. Family would also like to acknowledge the efforts of the Pembroke Regional Hospital and thank all staff involved, especially Dr. Mylene Gagne, who helped maintain mom's care and comfort right up her last moments. Special thank you to Dr. A. Musawir and Dr. G. Joseph of the Renfrew Victoria Hospital "Nephrology Team” and their staff for providing that special "above and beyond" type of care for Bernice over the years. Respecting Bernice's wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service to inter her and Robbie's ashes will be held in the spring.
